Agenda Item #80 Title APPROVAL OF THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING TO PARTICIPATE IN THE STATE'S RACE TO THE TOP GRANT APPLICATION Description The Memorandum of Understanding is a required component of the Florida Department of Education Race to the Top grant application. Districts that wish to be a participating district must indicate their agreement to implement key elements described in Exhibit 1 – Preliminary Scope of Work. Implementation of many of the key elements would be dependent upon successful negotiations of the collective bargaining agreement. Fifty percent of the funds received by a successful state application would be distributed to those districts that have a signed MOU and have negotiated the required elements in the collective bargaining agreement. It is estimated that the district could receive approximately $4,000,000 or more (distributed over a 4 year period) if it meets the criteria of a participating district. The funds are to be used to support the grant related activities required to meet the key components outlined in Exhibit 1. Recommendation To authorize the Superintendent and the Chairperson of the School Board to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to participate in the state’s Race to the Top grant application as presented.
