Bay Haven
School of Basics Plus is Sarasota County's only school recognized
nationally as a "Blue Ribbon School"
and has been a "Five Star School" for seventeen (17) years.
In our twenty-sixth year as Sarasota County's only magnet elementary
school, our program was developed emphasizing a back-to-basics
approach with strong discipline; contracts for parents, students,
and staff; and some program offerings not available in other Sarasota
Schools. Seats are filled on a "First-come, first-serve"
basis. The length of our "Waiting Lists" for each grade
level, and the "Waiting Lists" in place for incoming
Kindergartners through 2015, are a strong indicator of our success.

Bay
Haven School is one of two elementary schools built in Sarasota
from identical plans to accommodate population growth resulting
from the 1920’s real estate boom. Bay Haven and Southside
Elementary were developed by architect M. Leo Elliott, a New York
trained practitioner with offices in Sarasota, Tampa, Orlando and
St. Petersburg. Both schools reflect the Mediterranean Revival Style;
each cost $77,000 to build. Their locations - Bay Haven north of
the city center and Southside to its south - reflect the advice
of nationally renowned land planner John Nolen, city planner of
Cambridge, Massachusetts, who recommended two schools in the outlying
residential areas.

| Parent Drop-off and Pick-up |
|
|
Rules have been established for parent drop-off to begin each day and for parent pick-up to end each day. Safety is of utmost importance, so you will be required to follow Bay Haven rules. We turn Tamiami Circle into a one way street going North to South for morning drop off. For parent pick-up we turn Tennessee Lane into a one way street going East to West. Drivers should remain in their vehicles and wait their turn to drop-off or pick-up children. Staff supervision is provided. Parking across the street or south of this zone endangers everybody by having children in the street. We will not support this behavior. Dropping off or picking up children in the staff parking lot or behind the school is also a violation of our rules. Please follow our procedures or your behavior will be considered a violation of our Bay Haven contract. Supervised dismissal ends at 4:15 p.m. Children who have not been picked up are sent to Child Care and a $8.00 fee will be assessed for that day.

The before and after-school Child Care program operates on regularly scheduled school days, beginning with the first day of school. Before-school care is from 7:00 a.m. until 9:05 a.m. and after-school care is from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Calculation of fees according to a daily rate and the fee schedule is a sliding scale, based on the financial situation and size of the family. Documentation of free or reduced lunch will be necessary to receive discounts. Parent pick-up after 6:00 p.m. will require a late fee of $1.00 per minute to be paid at that time.
Tuition is due the first of each month, in advance. Falling behind in payment of tuition by more than one week can result in removal of your child from the program. Additional fees will be charged and collected for checks returned for insufficient funds and you will be asked to pay by cash or money order.
Students must be signed in by an approved adult when they arrive and signed out by an approved adult when they leave. |

Notification must be given by the parent, preferably on the first day, but not later than the third day of a student’s absence. A child who is absent from school must present, upon return, a written excuse to the teacher signed by the parent/guardian. The note must explain the reason for the absence and the date. Excessive student absences for family outings are discouraged.
