Clubs & Programs

21st Century Community Learning Center Alateen

A federal grant provides before and after-school programs. Academic, art, music, recreation and social activities are provided Monday through Friday. In addition, homework help is available for students who need additional support with coursework, access to technology and other resources or just a conducive environment for completion of homework.

Alateen is a support group for young people who are affected by someone else's drinking. Adult Al-Anon sponsors facilitate these groups which meet weekly during the school day.

Athletics Builders Club

Competitive and developmental athletic programs are available for HCMS students. Competitive sports include basketball, volleyball, track, tennis and golf. Developmental sports are open to all students.

Builders Club allows students to participate in service learning projects. The organization operates a school store, directs food pantry collections and other school events which benefit the community.

CTC/SATOSSOffered to students at Heron Creek Middle School to provide additional support, guidance and counseling to students who are experiencing problems that may interfere with academic and social success or other areas of concern such as behaviors that lead to disciplinary actions, self esteem, family/life stressors. Services are provided by a Master’s level social worker or mental health counselor from Jewish Family & Children’s Services in partnership with Sarasota County schools.

Journalism/YearbookStudents can help be part of the creative force behind the Heron Creek Middle Yearbook and student-run Newsletter! Showcase your talent!Mathletes / History Fair tudents participate in a variety of academic enrichment programs. The above are competative and open to students who wish to compete in the above extracurricular activities.

National Junior Honor SocietyHigh-achieving students receive recognition for their academic erformance and civic responsibility.

Pep SquadSchool spirit is a must for this activity! Students who wish to cheer on the teams can participate in this club!

Student GovernmentStudents serve as elected representatives in the student goverment. Student Government sponsors school dances, contests and other social and civic programs at HCMS.

WEB LeadersWelcome Everybody, or WEB, is a peer leadership program which provides upper-grade students the training and opportunity to serve as peer leaders.
