Welcome to the MMS Band Website!
Letter from the director
Dear Students, Parents, and friends of the band, The 2009-2010 school year was an awesome year for the band. We had an exciting year of successful and fun performances, and we are looking forward to another great year. I would like to welcome new students to the band. Learning and playing an instrument in band is hard work, but you will soon find out that it is very rewarding and well worth the effort.
I would like to stress that all band students are required to practice their instruments at home. This is their homework for this class, and it will help to reinforce what they have learned in class and to build strength and stamina in the muscles needed to play. Students are also required to bring all of their supplies—instrument, mouthpiece, reeds (more than one!), book, music, and pencil - to class with them each day. Students are encouraged, but not required, to take private lessons on their instruments if possible. If you need a recommendation for a private instructor, please ask me.
We will be starting a fundraiser soon to raise money for expenses that the band incurs, including supplies, uniforms, instructors, and travel expenses. Bands are expensive to run, and the school is only able to provide a limited budget, so your support and participation in fundraising in much appreciated.
Parent volunteers are needed for trips. Please make sure you are registered with PALS if you would like to volunteer.
Thanks so much for all of your support and cooperation. I am looking forward to a wonderful year! Please check the calendar regularly. Performances are a very important part of our band program, and are mandatory unless otherwise specified. Please discuss any possible conflicts with me as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Christopher Daige, director of bands
