Buy a Yearbook
The 2009-2010 WMS Wildcat Yearbook promises to be an awesome, once-in-a-lifetime journey through our students' middle years. This year we have an incredible staff who is powerfully motivated to bring WMS a unique, yet classic treasury of memories for students and parents alike. Our goal is to capture every person in the entire school at least three times in the yearbook - so look for your friends, your enemies, your teachers, your favorite staff and administration, and most of all YOURSELF!

The yearbook can be purchased for $30 until the yearbook order is placed in early January. Students and parents - don't miss out on your 2009-2010 WMS Wildcat Yearbook. After the paid books are ordered, there may not be any to purchase when the roll-out comes around in May.

Don't forget to advertise if you feel like speaking directly to the student body. If you want everyone to know how great your friend or student is, or you have a congratulatory wish or fabulous saying, or a product or business you want to promote to the campus, let a yearbook staffer know so they can tell you about our advertising plans. You can also go online and read all about it, and even order your ad right then and there.

Interested in entering a Wildcat Expressions into the 2009-2010 WMS Yearbook? Complete this form and turn it in to your teacher or Mrs. Wesson ASAP!

The Sarasota County Health Department has advised school district personnel, parents and guardians to take precautions to prevent the spread of the norovirus illness. Noroviruses refer to a group of viruses that cause what is commonly called stomach flu, or gastrointestinal illnesses. Follow this link to read a message from Sarasota County Schools:
Important information about the norovirus illness

The law requires us to inform you of the ways in which student social security numbers are being used or may be used by the Sarasota County Public Schools. Follow this link to read a memo from Michael Jones, Executive Director of Human Resources and Labor Relations:

palsRegistration:To become a school volunteer, you must first register on the PALS Count system. This is a program that uses the intranet that is accessible only within the Sarasota County School system. You may use the system at any of the Sarasota County school sites or the PALS office at the Landings in Sarasota. Registration and approval are necessary for all volunteer activities (chaperoning, lunchroom, clerical, classroom, etc.).

Volunteer Sign In/Sign Out:Always report to the school office before you begin your volunteer activity. Present your driver's license or state identification to be scanned and receive your school ID badge. Use the PALS Count program to sign in and log your volunteer hours. It is important that the school staff knows who you are and where they can locate you in case of emergency. Wear your badge while on campus to ensure the school staff and students can easily identify you.
The School Advisory Council (SAC) represents a broad cross section of the school's student population and the area in which the school is located. Volunteers from the community can express an interest in becoming a member of a school SAC. The SAC functions as a resource to the principal and members work as a team to achieve school improvement goals.

  SADD
To provide students with the best prevention tools possible to deal with the issues of underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving and other destructive decisions.

Originally, the mission of the SADD chapter was to help young people say "No" to drinking and driving. Today, the mission has expanded. Students have told us that positive peer pressure, role modeling and environmental strategies can prevent other destructive decisions and set a healthier, safer course for their lives. And that is why SADD has become a peer-to-peer education, prevention, and activism organization dedicated to preventing destructive decisions, particularly underage drinking, other drug use, risky and impaired driving, teen violence, and teen suicide.

  FCCLA Mission
To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner and community leader, members develop skills for life through: character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.

Purpose
  1. To provide opportunities for personal development and preparation for adult life.
  2. To strengthen the function of the family as a basic unit of society.
  3. To encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community.
  4. To encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony.
  5. To promote greater understanding between youth and adults.
  6. To provide opportunities for making decisions and for assuming responsibilities.
  7. To prepare for the multiple roles of men and women in today's society.
  8. To promote Family and Consumer Sciences and related occupations.
Program Emphasis FCCLA is the only in-school student organization with the family as its central focus. FCCLA is a vocational student organization that functions as an integral part of the Family and Consumer Sciences education curriculum and operates within the school system, and it provides opportunities for active student participation at local, state, and national levels.

Community of Caring Survey

C OF C Community of Caring

Community of Caring believes that creating caring relationships and a caring school community while teaching values across the curriculum is essential in creating safe and healthy learning environments in which all children can succeed and prosper academically and ethically, including students with disabilities.
Community of Caring is built around five core values that empower young people to be responsible and caring members of a community: Caring, Respect, Responsibility, Trust, and Family. They are universally accepted values that were identified as core to healthy human development through a ground-breaking, pioneering consensus process by a group of philosophers, educators, health specialists, legal professionals, ethicists, policy makers and psychologists. These five values serve as a foundation and umbrella for school activities and initiatives in Community of Caring schools. In Community of Caring schools caring, respect, responsibility, trust and family are taught and lived.

"Values are the reasons we give for what we do, for how we live our lives. They are the ends which guide, or ought to guide, all the activities of a school."
- William Sullivan, Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching
