AGREEMENTS/CONTRACTS

9. AGREEMENT BETWEEN GIRL SCOUTS OF GULFCOAST FLORIDA, INC. AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description

This "Get Real" Mentoring program between Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc., and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, will provide mentoring services to middle school students enrolled in Sarasota County's schools at no cost to the district.



Recommendation
That the agreement between Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc., and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be accepted as presented.

10. APPROVAL OF THE CONTRACT FOR EDUCATIONAL SERVICES BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONS, INC.
Description
Positive Behavior Interventions, Inc., will provide Board Certified Behavior Analyst to assist team of severe social/emotional behavioral disordered students in developing and analyzing a plan to implement instructional programs.

Recommendation
That the contract for behavior intervention services between the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, and Positive Behavior Interventions, Inc. in the amount of $100,000.00, be approved as presented.

GRANTS

11. APPROVAL OF THE SCHOOL LUNCH EQUIPMENT GRANT(ARRA) PROPOSAL TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR FOOD & NUTRITION SERVICES
Description

COMPETITIVE:  Grant funds of $29,624.00 will be used to purchase improved equipment to provide a quality food service program. 



Recommendation

That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the School Lunch Equipment Grant (ARRA) proposal.

EXPULSIONS

12. APPROVAL OF EXPULSION CASE NO. 11-055
Description

School Board Policy 5.34(4), permits the Board to hold in abeyance the expulsion of a student if the student participates in a recognized alternative-to-expulsion program.  This student is being placed on a Deferred Expulsion Agreement at Riverview High School.



Recommendation
That Expulsion Case No. 11-055, be held in abeyance per School Board Policy 5.34.

Description

On October 12, 2010, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 11-117, violated School Board Policy 5.32, Zero Tolerance and School Board Policy 5.322, Prohibition Against Use, Sale, or Possession of Alcohol or Drugs.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 15, 2012.

That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, and the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 11-117, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2010-2011 academic year, the 2011 summer session, until June 15 of the 2011-2012 academic year.

Description

The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 10-170, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement.  On December 1, 2009, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 10-170, violated School Board Policy 5.34(1)(d), Grand Theft. It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until January 4, 2011.

That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 10-170, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately until January 4, of the 2010-2011 academic year.

22. APPROVAL OF EXPULSION CASE NO. 10-501
Description
The student listed in expulsion Case No. 10-501, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement.  On May 24, 2010, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 10-501, violated School Board Policy 5.322, Prohibition Against Use, Sale, or Possession of Alcohol or Drugs.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until January 4, 2012.

Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 10-501, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2010-2011 academic year, the 2011, summer session, until January 4 of the 2011-2012 academic year.

MATERIALS MANAGEMENT

28. APPROVAL TO AWARD BID #11-0007 FOR MOTOR REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT SERVICE
Description
Bids to provide 'Motor Repair and Replacement Service' were received from three vendors on October 14, 2010.  The bid of Associated Air and Pump was the best low bid meeting the advertised specifications based on a sealed scenario.  This bid is for a period of one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods.  The funds for these purchases are contained in the capital budget allocated to the Facilities Services Department.

Recommendation
That the bid of Associated Air and Pump, to provide 'Motor Repair and Replacement Service' in an amount not to exceed $175,000.00, be approved for award and purchase.

CONSTRUCTION

29. APPROVAL OF COMMISSIONING AGENT'S CONTRACT FOR THE VENICE HIGH SCHOOL-REBUILD PROJECT
Description

The project's scope of work shall include commissioning services for the reconstruction of the Venice High School campus buildings.  On 6/15/2010 (Item #49), the School Board authorized negotiations with this company.  On 10/22/2010, the Director of Construction Services and two (2) members of the Professional Services Selection Committee (PSSC) met with a representative of SSRCx, LLC and successfully negotiated a contract.  The amount of this contract is $173,927.00.  These contract documents have been approved by the School Board attorney and are available for review at the Construction Services Department.  Funds for this project are available in the capital budget account.



Recommendation
That the commissioning agent's contract for the Venice High School-Rebuild project be approved as presented.

30. APPROVAL OF CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION FOR THE VENICE HIGH SCHOOL REBUILD PROJECT-PHASE 1
Description

Under the terms of the 7/21/2009 (Item #63) Board approved "Agreement between Owner and Construction Manager for Pre-Construction & Bidding Services", the Director of Construction Services and a member of the Professional Services Selection Committee (PSSC) have successfully negotiated a contract with W.G. Mills, Inc. for a portion of the Venice High School Rebuild project.  The 7/21/2009 agreement included pre-construction and bidding services only.  The scope of this contract shall include the vertical construction of a new Central Energy Plant, new three-story Classroom Building and the remodel of the existing Media Center into a Cafeteria and Custodial Receiving.  The Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) of this contract is $31,898,600.00.  The remaining contract for remainder of the construction will be negotiated upon completion of those contract documents.  This contract is available for review at the Construction Services Department.  The School Board attorney has approved the use of this contract.  Funds for this contract are available in the project budget account.



Recommendation
That the contract for construction for the Venice High School Rebuild-Project-Phase 1 be approved as presented.

31. APPROVAL AND/OR RATIFICATION OF CONSTRUCTION SERVICES' CHANGE ORDER(S)
Description
The Construction Services' Change Order(s) are summarized on the enclosure for ease of review.  These change orders collectively total neither an increase nor a reduction in contract amounts.

Recommendation
That the Construction Services' Change Order(s) be approved and/or ratified as presented.

Description

Description
This annual meeting confirms and ratifies all actions taken by the officers and directors of the corporation since its last meeting of the directors, and elects the Chairman as President and the Superintendent as Secretary and Treasurer.

Recommendation
That the School Board meeting be temporarily suspended and the annual meeting of the Financing Corporation for the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be convened.
